Program Structure
The spine fellow works with orthopaedic residents, attending surgeons and medical students. In addition the fellows will have access to education from surgical attendings throughout their experience. Leadership for the fellowship program comes from a diverse group of attending surgeons with well over 25 years or surgical, clinical and fellowship experience.
Leadership includes the Director of the Fellowship Program, Howard S. An, MD, the Co-Director, Frank M. Phillips, MD, and Kim Hammerberg, MD, Chief of Staff at Shriners Hospital. Our Surgeons provide a broad spectrum of knowledge ranging from deformity, trauma, degenerative disease, oncology, minimally invasive treatment of spine disorders.
The majority of the fellowship is spent at Rush University Medical Center and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. However, fellows also rotate at the Shriners Hospital for Children for a broad spectrum of pediatric spinal deformity pathology.
